Synopsis

Our story begins somewhere in the West Country, with Jim Ladd and Nancy, two young lovers, defying their parents to be together. Meanwhile, Captain Slither and his motley band of pirates are hunting for treasure as all pirates do. They discover a treasure map and the voyage begins!

The pirates set off in search of the treasure, with Jim, Nancy and Jim’s mother in tow. Chaos ensues as the stowaways steal the lifeboat and Jim’s mother is forced to walk the plank.

After a long search and very eventful stay on the island, will the pirates find their treasure? Will Jim get the girl? (This is panto, of course he does but there is a very unexpected twist!) Will they all live happily ever after? I guess you’ll just have to wait and see!!

Characters

Billy Fishbone an inebriated old ex-pirate. This is a small part that would be ideal for an adult. The person playing this part could also double as Captain Haddock!

Jim Ladd Principal boy. This is a big part, full of the traditional principal boy bad jokes and includes a solo song.

Mrs Ladd Jim's mum (the dame!). In panto tradition, I would like this part to be played by a man who doesn’t mind (or may even enjoy) getting dressed up with fake bosoms and outrageous outfits! The dame will be singing a duet.

Dr Liversausage The doctor is a crazy old quack who appears in many scenes throughout the panto. Although there are no solo songs, be prepared for lots of group numbers!

Squire Polperro An archetypal product of the public school system, Squire Polperro is a pompous fool with more money than sense. This is a big part as this character is the secondary bad guy. No solo songs.

Nancy Polperro Squire Polperro's daughter and Jim’s love interest. Again this is a big part with several solo or duet songs.

Newquay & Bodmin the Squire's faithful but useless lackeys. Ideally these characters would be best suited to adult actors (male or female) or older juniors.

Captain Smellit A grumpy, gruff old sea captain. This is not a huge part but a very important one. Ideally played by an adult.

Long John Slither a charming but untrustworthy amputee. LJS is the main bad guy of this panto. As you would expect, this is a large part with several songs, one of which is a solo.

Captain Haddock a Guatemalan crimson parakeet. The parrot doesn’t have much to say so the person playing this part will need to be able to put across a lot of feeling through big movements.

Israel Feet One of Long John Slither’s band of pirates. This is a big part with several songs duet songs.

Seamus "Groundbait" O'Flaherty an Irish buccaneer. I would ideally like this character to have an Irish accent so anyone who is good at accents, feel free to apply!! This is a big part, with several duet songs.

Blind Puke a visually challenged pirate. This part is better suited to an adult cast member. As this is a very small part, the person playing this role could also double as Don Iguana.

Pink Dog a thoroughly villainous female pirate. Pink dog is very mean and very sexy. This is not a huge part but it is important that whoever is playing her is able to get across just how mean she is. (She is responsible for Jim’s mother walking the plank!!)

George Merry a grumpy pirate, one of Long John Slither’s band of pirates. This is a big part with several songs duet songs.

Don Iguana Spanish ambassador to Guadeloupe. This is a small part (only appearing in two scenes). The person playing this part may double as Blink Puke!

Donna Estella a sumptuous Hispanic beauty and part of the biggest twist in the panto’s love story!

Bertha Gun a potty old ex-pirate and tea lady who lives on treasure island. She is only in a couple of scenes but she does have some very wordy speeches. She is also one of the conductors of the audience participation song.

Chorus various pirates. All ages welcome!
